A Fun Winter Escape: Upscale Fiji Vacation Tips

Turtle Island Resort in Fiji

Thinking about getting out of the frigid cold? Well here's a great idea that I have been doing for years.

I know most of you are thinking of the Caribbean, Mexico or Hawaii, however, you can have a great vacation experience in Fiji, avoid the crowds and get way more for your hard earned hula dollars.

Fiji has a wide variety resort hotels to choose from that offer more than you would get in the other vacation destinations I mentioned. Fiji has accommodations for all budgets, from hostels to ultra-luxurious, world class boutique hotels and everything in between.

Fiji has over 330 extraordinary islands to choose from, plus over 500 tiny islands. There are two to very large islands, Vanua Levu island in Fiji and Viti levu Island in Fiji where most of the Fijians live.

Viti Levu Island is where the government buildings are and the Capital City of Suva is. The main airport for tourists is in Nadi, (pronounced Nandi). This beautiful island is ringed with small villages, but the Coral Coast in the most popular tourism spot on the island. If you are an adventurer, Viti Levu has lush tropical forests and rugged mountains with hundreds of exotic valleys and majestic waterfalls to explore.

Vanua Levu, is similar, but the tourism facilities are not as easy to find.

Fiji's outer islands are where most of the tourists visit. The Mamanuca and Yasawa islands chains are the most popular and have most of the resort hotels. You'll discover pristine beaches shaded with coconut palms and aquamarine seas so clear you can see the bottom 100 feet below as if you were floating on air. Needless to say, scuba diving and snorkeling are a favorite activities as well as deep sea fishing.

There are hundreds of Fiji resorts to choose from, a daunting task for someone that has never been to Fiji. I've been vacationing in Fiji since 1976 and was married there in 1996.

If you want a great vacation in warm tropical weather Fiji is my top choice. Its only 9 hours from Los Angeles to Fiji. You leave at 11 at night, have a nice meal, watch a movie or two, sleep a while and you wake up in paradise early in the morning, not wasting a day that way.
