Kava Ceremony , Fiji
Drinking Kava is very popular in Fiji. Many Fijian's will drink Kava on a daily basis for its relaxing effect however the Kava ceremony is full of tradition. Basically, the ceremony is initiated when two groups of people come together with peaceful intentions. An example would be when a group of people visit a village for the first time, the gift of Kava would be presented. The ceremony is as follows: Kava is presented, the kava is prepared, a blessing is issued followed by clapping .
The chief of the village or the oldest male will drink first and then a communal bowl will be passed around. While visiting Fiji, seek out an opportunity to partake in a Kava ceremony. It is a culturally rich experience you should not miss. Be sure to dress conservatively as you will be expected to present yourself in a respectful manner. When you are offered the Kava drink the entire cup, sipping is inappropriate. You will clap once before you drink, then shoot the drink as if drink from a shot glass, when complete clap three times.
Once the ceremony is complete then everyone in the room is now friends and you can get on with the eating and the dancing. Call 1.800.330.8820 or click here to have a Fiji Travel Specialist contact you about booking a fun Fiji vacation that includes a Kava ceremony .
